Douglas: Horse tram at Derby Castle station
Douglas: Horse tram at Derby Castle station
In 2015, a horse car leaves here every twenty minutes for Victoria Pier. This service only applies during morning and afternoon, there being no evening service. This double-track horse tramway along a public road is unique in the world, and should be retained. Instead the Corporation plan to rip up the tramlines and relay just a single track along the front, away from the other traffic. This must be resisted - they plan to demolish what should be a World Heritage site and replace it with a Disney-style fairground line.
