Midland Hotel

The Midland Hotel on Morecambe's seafront is a Grade II* Listed building. It was built in art deco style and opened in 1933. Morecambe was then enjoying its heyday as a holiday destination.

In the latter half of the 20th Century, the development of air travel made it much easier to travel to foreign resorts, where sunshine was more-or-less guaranteed. In common with many resorts around Britain's coast, Morecambe's popularity with holidaymakers waned. The Midland Hotel closed in 1998 and fell into disrepair.

The hotel was restored and reopened in 2008. During the restoration, an extra floor was added at the top of the building.
