SD4498 : The Parish Church of St Anne, Ings
taken 9 years ago, near to Ings, Cumbria, England
While a chapel is thought to have existed on this site from 1616, the present church dates from 1743 and was financed by Robert Bateman, an English merchant of Leghorn (Livorno) in Tuscany. Designed by Bateman in the then current Georgian style, the chancel and sanctuary were floored in marble, which Bateman may have sourced from the quarries at Carrara.
The church was substantially refurbished in 1842, the cost covered by subscription – one subscriber being Queen Adelaide, widow of King William IV. The east window, designed by Edward Frampton of Buckingham Palace Road, London, depicts The Transfiguration and was dedicated in 1883.
A Parish produced history booklet is available at the Church. Some more information may be found: Link
