Hereward the Wake at Bourne, Lincolnshire
Hereward is the town’s traditional hero who lead the uprising against the invaders after the Norman Conquest of 1066 and is remembered by this seven-foot high polystyrene hand-painted model originally made for a Viking exhibition at Skegness in 2003 but later moved 40 miles to the Heritage Centre at Bourne where it was transformed from Danish invader to Saxon hero which also involved the colour of the eyes being changed from brown to blue.
