Built c 1930, by Cackett, Burns Dick and Mackellar for the General Electric Company. Traditional materials of brick and Portland stone were used to help the building fit into the street scene, although there is a large number of windows in the upper floors. There are several coloured panels showing figures in dramatic but noble poses, inspired by the wonder and excitement of power generation NZ2464 : Magnet House and Andrews House, Gallowgate, NE1 (detail).
