For a relatively short time around 1860, slate was quarried here at the upper end of Cwm Ystradllyn. It was taken by horse-drawn tramway SH5543 : The Gorseddau Tramway north of Ynyspandy Slate Mill to Melin Lechi Ynyspandy Slate Mill SH5543 : Melin Lechi Ynysypandy to be split and shaped. Then it continued on the tramway SH5442 : View south along the former track bed of the Gorseddau Tramway down to the coast SH5639 : Public footpath alongside Y Cyt / The Cut for shipping out through Porthmadog.
