SO4381 : Stokesay Castle Gatehouse built 1640-41

taken 7 years ago, near to Craven Arms, Shropshire, Great Britain

Stokesay Castle Gatehouse built 1640-41
Stokesay Castle Gatehouse built 1640-41
From the top of the South Tower showing the inner side of the gatehouse, it was domestic rather than of military use and built a year before the Civil War started. Stokesay was royalist but surrendered to the parliamentary forces in June 1645, there is no evidence that anyone was killed so maybe not a shot was fired
