This level crossing is on the former Aldeburgh branch line which now goes as far as a railhead near the Sizewell Nuclear Power Stations. The line was used to transport fuel and materials to and from the old Sizewell A Magnox station. LinkExternal link

The line has not been used since the last fuel was removed from the A station in August 2014 LinkExternal link (Archive LinkExternal link ) . The line may be used again for the construction of the proposed Sizewell C
