Clearwell Cemetery Chapel
Clearwell Cemetery Chapel
On the south side of High Street, Clearwell, the chapel is at the entrance to a rectangular cemetery about 150 metres long by 35 metres wide. An information notice on the chapel door states that the chapel is on the site of the former St Peter's Church which was built in 1828 as a Chapel of Ease for All Saints in Newland.

After her return to Clearwell Court in c1855, Lady Dunraven wanted to build a church fitting for Clearwell.
From 1863 plans were drawn up with John Middleton who had designed the existing church. Land was acquired and the church was built. The new St Peter's LinkExternal link was consecrated on April 5th 1866. The old church on this site was demolished and this Mortuary Chapel then built. The original church bell by Ruddall of Gloucester can be seen here.

The chapel is open every day for private prayer, for fortnightly services and to receive coffins or ashes before burial.
