taken 9 years ago, near to Renfrew, Renfrewshire, Scotland

The Clyde at Yoker
The Clyde at Yoker
With the Glasgow Road [A814] running alongside towards Govan. The Renfrew Ferry crosses from near the jetty visible on the Renfrew [RH] side. BAE Systems shipbuilding yard is on the left, with a large square opening and yellow lintel, and Braehead across the river on the right.
Renfrew Ferry

Renfrew is one of the oldest surviving ferry crossings in the UK and has seen three different vessel types in my lifetime.

1. The chainlink vessels that ran until 1984 NS5168 : Last day of the old Renfrew ferry.

2. The "landing craft" style which operated from 1984 until 2010 and which could carry an emergency vehicle at a push NS5168 : Renfrew Ferry.

3. The present day replacement which can carry 12 passengers and no vehicles. I suppose it is better than nothing NS5168 : Silvers Marine - The new Renfrew Ferry as of April 2010..
