Three levels of the Cob [eastern end]
Three levels of the Cob [eastern end]
The Cob was built as a roadway and tidal dam between 1807 and 1811. In the 1830s the Ffestiniog Railway was built along roadway, leaving just a footpath alongside, and a new lower roadway was added on the inland side. In 2001 this lower roadway was widened, and an even lower footpath and cycleway built alongside, again on the inland side.
