The Red Feather Club
The Red Feather Club
The Red Feather Club is a restored former NCOs' (non commissioned officers') club dating from WW2 and located on RAF Horham's former Communal site 2. The complex of buildings now houses the 95th Bomb Group Museum. Depicted here is one of the murals in the former Smoking Room, now referred to as the Mural Room, see also > LinkExternal link and LinkExternal link. The paintings were created by Staff Sgt Nathan Bindler who is also known to have decorated some of the group's aircraft.
RAF Horham (USAAF Station 119)
RAF Horham is located to the south-east of Eye and straddles the parishes of Denham, Horham, Redlingfield and Hoxne. Built for the Royal Air Force (RAF) it was one of the earliest heavy bomber bases opened in East Anglia. In 1942, the base was handed over to the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) and designated Station 119. The aerodrome's history and a number of original buildings are preserved at two local museums - the 95th Bomb Group Hospital Museum > LinkExternal link and the nearby 95th Bomb Group Museum > LinkExternal link.
