Dungeness: the old lighthouse
This lighthouse was built in 1904, replacing the original tower which stood a short distance to the south (the circular keepers' cottages remain, and mark the base of the original light).
The power station, built in the mid 1960s, partially obscured the light from the west, and so the new lighthouse (behind us) was built and became operational in 1961.
Today the old lighthouse is a visitor attraction, offering great views along this southernmost section of the Kent coast.
