'MV Britannia' visits Edinburgh
Anchored about 2 km off Leith, from where passengers are ferried in small boats to Newhaven Harbour. One stop on a round-Britain tour for the newest and largest of the P&O cruise liners.
Britannia visits Edinburgh

Not the ex-Royal Yacht Britannia, that was cruelly confiscated from HM the Queen, but the new P&O cruise ship. It is 329 m long, with a beam of 45 m, and gross tonnage 143000 LinkExternal link. It was ordered in 2011, the keel laid down in May 2013 and entered service on 14 March 2015. It has 15 passenger decks, to accommodate 4324 passengers, and a crew of 1398 officers and crew. At destinations where the ship cannot dock, like Edinburgh, cruisers are ferried ashore by tenders, where they are greeted by pipers, and a collection of coaches and taxis for organised and unorganised excursions.
