The track is an old concreted road dating from WW2, which used to lead to Site 2 when RAF Knettishall was an active airfield. Site 4 was situated just across the road, denoted by the hedge seen in the background.
RAF Knettishall - USAAF Station 136

RAF Knettishall is located roughly ten kilometres (six miles) south-east of Thetford between the villages of Knettishall and Coney Weston, on the south side of the Little Ouse Valley and bordering the area of heath and forest known as the Breckland, The aerodrome was constructed by W&C French Ltd to Class A specifications, comprising the standard 50-metres wide concrete runways, with the main runway being 1,830 metres (6,000 feet) long and the two intersecting secondary runways 1,280 metres (4,200 feet) each in length was however soon handed over to the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) and designated Station 136.
