Fatsia japonica in a domestic garden, Ynyslas
Fatsia japonica is an evergreen shrub native to southern Japan, South Korea and Formosa. It is a member of the Araliaceae, the same family as ivy. Given space it develops into a striking 'architectural' plant. It is often seen, and looks well, in urban gardens but also shows tolerance of coastal conditions, as here. In New Zealand it has naturalized. It flowers and fruits in warm conditions. As our climate changes, how long before Fatsia naturalises in the British Isles? One to watch. LinkExternal link
