Birmingham Museum of Science & Industry - grasshopper beam engine
The big blue engine has a cast plaque to state it was built by R Stephenson & Co in June 1823 and it powered the Newcastle works of R Stephenson & Co. You could say this was the engine that built 'The Rocket' and many other steam locomotives from this famous works. I took this shortly before closure and the engine was then displayed in Newcastle at the place of its birth. Unfortunately this museum too was closed and it is now preserved in the Pockerley engine shed at Beamish. It has yet to be posted on Geograph in this new location.
