SD4882 : The Kent estuary from Haverbrack Bank

taken 10 years ago, near to Milnthorpe, Cumbria, England

The Kent estuary from Haverbrack Bank
The Kent estuary from Haverbrack Bank
At low tide the River Bela flows into the estuary in the foreground. It actually flows UP the estuary for a short distance to meet the oncoming Kent channel. The combined waters then flow left out of the picture. At high tides all the sandbanks are covered. During the highest tides (especially combined with rain on the Lake District fells where the Kent rises) then the salt marsh turf is also inundated.
