The Barnston Chapel was installed in 1658 by William Barnston who was largely responsible for the subsequent restoration of the church. One of Charles I's close advisers at the Siege of Chester in 1645, it was he who commissioned the Civil War window in the chapel in 1662 to commemorate the Royalist defenders of Chester during the siege. It depicts several of the officers, as well as pikemen, musketeers and musicians, along with their arms and equipment, and is considered a very rare thing.
