Route of old road, near A345 Marlborough
The line of the old road can be seen in what looks like a ditch but is a footpath. It seems that in the early days of motoring, horseless carriages were unable to handle the gradient so the road was realigned to its present, less steep route seen at the left. (Note: the slight 'cast' on the image is because there was some haze in the air and this is a telephoto image.)
Photos taken from church towers

Written by Brian Robert Marshall

Some churches allow occasional public access to their tower roofs. These provide exceptional opportunities to obtain views that are usually impossible to capture, and sometimes enable one to see buildings that are hidden from view at ground level. They always provide a fascinating and different perspective on otherwise unremarkable places.
