The building with the flagpole is the oldest building on the site, according to a local source. It dates to 1750 and once belonged to the descendants of Jane Seymour, the only one of Henry VIII's wives to produce a son. Henry was sufficiently grateful to her family to bestow lands on them including this location.

Some churches allow occasional public access to their tower roofs. These provide exceptional opportunities to obtain views that are usually impossible to capture, and sometimes enable one to see buildings that are hidden from view at ground level. They always provide a fascinating and different perspective on otherwise unremarkable places.
