SJ7086 : Rock-cut shelter in Helsdale Wood

taken 9 years ago, near to Broomedge, Warrington, England

Rock-cut shelter in Helsdale Wood
Rock-cut shelter in Helsdale Wood
The sandstone outcrop appears natural, though there is some evidence of quarrying in the vicinity. Probably another glacial meltwater channel like nearby SJ6887 : Slitten Gorge at Lymm and the SJ5467 : Urchin's Kitchen in Primrosehill Wood. The excavated hole is big enough for three or four people to sit in, but no bigger.
