New Mills Quaker Meeting House

Typical of independent-minded northern industrial towns, the first place of worship to be built in the New Mills area was the Quaker Meeting House on Low Leighton Road, built in 1717. It is now a private house and presumably the residents are not spooked by having gravestones in their garden. Note the rigid uniformity of these stones – an hallmark of Quaker burial grounds.
