Large Reclining Figure (1984) is based on a smaller version made in lead in 1938. A larger version was commissioned to be installed in Singapore, and then Moore made this largest version to be placed in the grounds of his home at Perry Green in Hertfordshire. Looking for photos on the Internet, you’ll see that it has been exhibited in a variety of places including Kew Gardens in 2007-2008 - see TQ1876 : Henry Moore at Kew - "Reclining Figure" and TQ1876 : Palm House with Moore installation
I liked the way this sculpture was placed on the lawns of the Underground Gallery, providing a bold figure as you come down the stairs from the YSP centre.
“Henry Moore : Back to a Land” was an exhibition of the work of the sculptor and artist Henry Moore (1898-1986), at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park from March to September 2015. Henry Moore was born nearby in Castleford and was a founding patron of the YSP.
The YSP’s website informed us “This major exhibition, in collaboration with The Henry Moore Foundation, takes a fresh approach to Moore’s work by considering his profound relationship with land, which was fundamental to his practice and fuelled his visual vocabulary” And “Moore was committed to showing his work in the open air”
Several of Moore’s sculptures are on permanent display at the YSP, the exhibition displayed more of his larger sculptures outdoors, and there was an exhibition of smaller sculptures, drawings and other work in the Underground Gallery.
