At least ten more yellow bikes have now appeared in and around the village of Melmerby since my previous visit on 15th July. They have been installed in anticipation of the coming of the Aviva Tour of Britain 2015. Stage 5 of the Tour on September 10th runs from Prudhoe in the Tyne valley to the finish on Hartside Pass, the second highest A road in England. The sting in the tail is the gruelling climb on the A686 from Melmerby up to the summit, which gains 414 metres in elevation over a distance of 7.9 km.
This unicycling dog stands towards the eastern end of the village green.
NY6137 : Melmerby Village Shop is this the Village Bakery whose gluten-free products are sold nationwide? I can recommend their "celebration cake" - the best wheat-free cake I have had.
