The chalk-ball stands at the point where the South Downs Way is crossed by a track leading up from Cocking and Crypt Farm to the West Dean woods. I took this photo from the minor (West Dean) track, looking roughly ENE in the direction of Heyshott.

The chalk-ball is apparently a sculpture by Andy Goldsworthy, and is one of a number in the area.
