Gun emplacement, Savernake - detail
Gun emplacement, Savernake - detail
The gun emplacement would have formed part of the second line of defence during WWII in the event that an invasion had taken place. It can be seen in context here SU2363 : Gun emplacement, Savernake It is positioned between the two former railway stations that Savernake once had. The gun was a Hotchkiss 6-pounder anti-tank gun. The gun on the right in this image LinkExternal link which I photographed in Victoria, British Columbia, is such a gun.
