A complete riot of a building (NZ2464 : Detail of Emerson Chambers, Blackett Street, Newcastle (1), NZ2464 : Detail of Emerson Chambers, Blackett Street, Newcastle (2)). Sometimes, when looking at their buildings, it's hard to avoid the conclusion that Victorian and Edwardian architects spent a lot time off their faces; and that some modern architects would benefit from this approach (an oft overlooked argument for legalisation). In this case, the practice of Simpson, Lawson & Rayne were under the influence of something wonderful. Built 1903-04. Grade II* listed.
The shop was a branch of Waterstone's.
