The little blue and white vessel is the ferry which plies between Brightlingsea and the north-facing beach at Mersea Stone. This was the day of the 2015 Colne Smack and Barge Match, and the barge is 'Marjorie', heading for the finishing line (off Bateman's Tower, Brightlingsea).

The distant shoreline is at Point Clear. In the original image the Martello tower Link is visible (with flag flying) a little to the left of centre.
