May's Folly, Hadlow Castle, Kent
This splendid late-Victorian folly was built by an industrialist, Robert May, who wished to use it to view the English Channel. (He was unsuccessful as the Channel is not visible from here). Its original height was 170ft but it is now shorter as the pinnacles have been removed for safety. However, this photograph shows it prior to this desecration. Surely a worthwhile project for English Heritage or a similar body would be the complete restoration of this once-beautiful building.
