Viewed across Pillmawr Road in September 2015. Dating from the 19th century, perhaps earlier, this is one of the oldest buildings in Malpas where new houses were built in the 1930s in the Graig Park area and in the 1960s in the Malpas Park area.

Kelly's Directory of Monmouthshire 1901 edition describes Malpas as
"a parish 1 miles north-by-west from Newport railway station" and lists the few inhabitants of Malpas at that time separately from the main Newport section. The landlord of the "Three Horse Shoes Public House" was shown as Richard Fusey.

No doubt the appearance of the Three Horseshoes has changed considerably since that time.
