The Great Powerline Disaster of 2015
The Great Powerline Disaster of 2015
Urban landscape in crisis. Taken about 6 am. Sometime in the wee hours of the morning, someone in a sports car wiped out this pole by misjudging the bend. I believe the car was proceeding in the opposite direction from the camera. It also wiped out the fence, careered down through the station flowerbed, spun round a bit and collided with the station building, cracking the wall in the new toilet block somewhat. It also knocked out the power supply and phonelines to the station and a terrace of houses up on the right. The driver emerged with some visible blood loss, but was able to leave the scene. The car was almost certainly a write-off. Link
The utility services were already on the scene at this time, and the road closed. It took the rest of the day to erect a new pole and open the road.
