Wansbrough Papermill
Wansbrough Papermill
Late in August 2015, DS Smith announced the closure of this mill by Christmas, with a loss of over 150 jobs. The company only recently invested a large amount of money in massive plant boilers. But it seems that the UK's current neo-liberalist post-industrialist agenda dictates that the mill should be closed to keep the shareholders happy. There is a suggestion that the company have some concerns about future pollution regulations - especially since the site will need expensive cleaning up after over 200 years of production on this site. A real tragedy for a cohesive rural community! Site reclamation (even if it starts anytime soon) will probably rule out rapid redevelopment of this site. It is likely to remain derelict for years to come. And there seems almost zero hope that someone will buy or take over the mill to operate.
