St Mary & the Holy Cross, Milstead
Village church seen from the footpath which crosses the churchyard. Originally Norman with plenty of stonework surviving, it was extended in the thirteenth century. After years of decline, the chapels became ruinous until two restorations in the nineteenth century - by a local builder, and in 1872 by renowned architect William Butterfield, who created the church as it is today.
