This area was the former site of Reay Crag Colliery but I have been unable to find very much about this site. The complex comprised a number of shafts with associated upcast spoil heaps and surface quarrying linked by either tracks or tramways. The line of a prominent access track can be traced on aerial photos running north to join the main A69 road just east of Gapshield NY6464 : Gapshield. It was led across a small stream valley by a now dismantled bridge, the central supports of which are still visible at NY 6419 6457.
