The Abbey Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, (Bath Abbey)

Bath Abbey is a parish church which was once the great church of a monastery.

The present Abbey church was founded in 1499 to replace an earlier, Norman, cathedral. Bath Abbey was suppressed in 1539; the site was sold and its buildings largely destroyed. The ruined Abbey was presented to the city of Bath in 1569 to become its parish church and in 1611, it was re-roofed and fully repaired.

Major restoration work was carried out in the 1860s and again in the 1990s. The Abbey is a Grade I Listed Building.
