New Mill Baptist Church
The Baptists first started meeting in a cottage near here in 1655, but when Charles II came to the throne such meetings became illegal, and they met secretly in a wood until their leader, Richard Sutton was imprisoned. However he was released after James II came to the throne. The current Georgian building was erected in 1818, when Daniel Clarabut was the Minister, and a school block erected in 1895 where the former classroom was refurbished as a hall in 2015.
