The Pleached Walk, Heywood Estate
The Pleached Walk, Heywood Estate
In 1906, the then owner of the Heywood Estate commissioned the famous landscape artist Sir Edwin Lutyens to design gardens adjacent to the House. This is the Pleached Walk; originally it comprised an avenue of pleached lime trees - pleaching being the bending and weaving of branches of adjacent trees together to make a living wall. The gardens are now administered by the Office of Public Works and are open to the public.
