Window N.IV, Gloucester Cathedral Lady Chapel
Window N.IV, Gloucester Cathedral Lady Chapel
The Annunciation by Whall, 1901.

At the top of the window is the Archangel Gabriel, and below are Angels with scales of judgement and Thrones. Below, shown in three panels is The Annunciation, flanked by St John the Baptist on the left, and Saint Catherine on the right.
On the lowest here are scenes from the lives of five figures, namely Saint Patrick, being taught by Saint Germanus, Bede dictating his translation of the Bible, Saint Helen discovering the three crosses, Saint Bridget's community of monks and nuns, and St David of Wales. At the bottom of the window there are several initials representing students and workmen who helped in the creation of the window.
There is some old glass in the tracery lights.

The window was given by Baron de Ferriers of Cheltenham.
Gloucester Cathedral
The Cathedral originated in 678 or 679 with the foundation of an abbey dedicated to Saint Peter. The foundations of the present church were laid by Abbot Serlo (10721104). LinkExternal link
