Paddling "Ecstasy" on Allt a'Chaorainn
Paddling "Ecstasy" on Allt a'Chaorainn
One of the "Etive tribs", the Allt a'Chaorainn offers steep creeking as it should be, with a gradient of 80m/km. Although the first drop feels steep, it is on the long granite slide of "Ecstasy" that the paddler first gets the feel for the river dropping away to a distant view across Glen Etive. This shot is just below the lip, as the boat levels out and starts to slide on the granite slabs, picking up the speed which is only killed by a small number of pools on the way down. These pools also allow a couple of seconds to roll up if you got it wrong (as I did just level with the yellow-suited paddler in the middle distance).
