Hayeswater Gill
Hayeswater Gill
Hayeswater Gill on its approach to Pasture Beck. The stone structures are part of the remains of Myers Head lead mine, which started in 1870 but was abandoned less than 10 years later after the shaft flooded. Visible are the remains of the wheelpit which housed a waterwheel for working a Cornish pump for raising floodwater our of the mine, along with the pillars that supported the trough that carried water to the wheel.

The mine and works are a scheduled ancient monument - see LinkExternal link.
