Church Farm House, Hendon
Church Farm House, Hendon
A settlement existed at Church End before the Norman Conquest. Church Farm House dates from the first half of the 17th century. It was bought by Hendon Council in 1944 and at one stage was due to be demolished. However, it was restored and was a fascinating local history museum with a kitchen which showed how a typical farm kitchen would have been in the 19th century. It is the oldest surviving dwelling in Hendon.

However, in an action which brought great local condemnation, the ruling Conservatives on Barnet Council permanently closed Church Farm House Museum on 31st March 2011. The Council proposed to sell off the house and contents but as at the date this photograph was taken had still not found a buyer for the house.
