Weeping willow in the process of collapse, rear of William Tarver Close, Warwick
A big tree that catches the eye in windy weather, its long pendulous shoots swaying in unison. Inside the canopy it's a mess: a massive twisting bole rises from a tangle of rotting fallen limbs. It's not a tree that I'd like as a neighbour. Only close inspection might reveal whether this is Salix x chrysocoma (aka Salix alba 'Tristis'), the golden weeping willow, currently favoured for planting, or whether it is Salix babylonica, formerly much planted.
