Geograph - photograph every grid square

Known in the trade as a sitting area. It's fine for watching the world go by but – convivial? I don't know the history of the site but clearly a building has gone and a building should go back to restore the traditional townscape. In the meantime there is this recourse to treeless municipal amenity, a sitting target for vandals. The view is across Pier Street and down Great Darkgate Street.

That area has a long local tradition of being a meeting place. People said "see you at the clock", even after the clock was removed around 1950; building a new clock for the millennium rather spoilt the effect! If there were buildings there it was a long time ago; the original clock (1864 I think) was built on the site of the old town hall, in what was the town square.
