'Journey's Echo', Longbenton Metro Station
'Journey's Echo', an artwork by Elinor Eastwood (1999) situated on platforms 1 and 2. Produced in collaboration with 6th Form students from St Mary’s RC Comprehensive School, ‘Journey’s Echo’ consists of four pairs of vitreous enamelled panels, two pairs per platform. Another panel is shown here NZ2668 : 'Journey's Echo', Longbenton Metro Station
The panels are placed in a sequence 1-4, linked by a text created by the artist and the students: ‘These histories travel with me stone on stone, bone on bone, mapped out, course plotted, through city, sea, me’.
Each pair of panels butted together, like the open pages of a book, contain visual reminders of the city and sea. Images of pebbles run throughout the panels. They are repetitious, like journeys between the sea and the city, but no two are ever the same.
