Greenfield Dock, Flintshire
Greenfield Dock, Flintshire
Greenfield has been the site of maritime activity possibly since before the Roman occupation of Britain (remains of a Roman hypocaust had been discovered whilst digging the foundations for a brass rolling mill, proof of a Roman settlement in the area). The entire area was thickly wooded before the time of St. Winifred (7th-century) and what is known today as the Greenfield Valley was then known as Sychnant (dry valley). In medieval times pilgrims may have used the dock here at Greenfield on their way to visit St Winefride's Well at Holywell.
