Wallsend Metro Station
The sign on the end of the shelter reads:
Platform 1 / Suggestus I
No Smoking / Noli Fumare
This dual-language signage, in Latin and English, together with a few other examples, was retained and renewed in the 2013 station refurbishment from an original display by Michael Pinsky made in 2003 NZ3066 : Latin sign at Wallsend Metro Station
To mark the refurbishment of the station in 2013 new photographs have been put on display in the shelters of both platforms. The images by North East photographer Graeme Peacock present modern views from Hadrian's Wall out across the surrounding country, capturing changing seasons and times of day from urban Tyneside through Northumberland to the coastline of the Solway Firth.
The commission marks 10 years since Wallsend became the only station in the world to have signs in Latin – as well as English – to mark its unique position at one end of the Hadrian’s Wall world heritage site.
