Pacer at Blackburn
Pacer at Blackburn
Since my last photographs of this station in 1992 SD6827 : Blackburn station the old station buildings have been abandoned in favour of this more modest, contemporary station on an adjacent site, but the 1980s Pacer trains are still running. This one is on the new service to Manchester via Rochdale, only possible since the Todmorden chord reopened earlier this year.
Blackburn railway station

There has been a station on the current site since 1846, originally belonging to the Blackburn and Preston Railway. Ownership subsequently passed to the East Lancashire Railway, the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway. London Midland & Scottish Railway, British Rail(ways) and now Northern Rail (a publicly owned company). The main station building, erected c.1886-8, is grade II listed (list entry 1261389). See the Wikipedia entry for a more detailed history.
