Old railway, Wagonway Road, Hebburn
Old railway, Wagonway Road, Hebburn
One of several railway lines in this area which served heavy industry, shipbuilding yards and collieries on the Tyne south shore. Old maps show that this railway line served the Bede Metal Works and crossed the Low Road close to the entrance gate of Hebburn Shipyard. The Bede Metal Works was set up in 1865 to extract copper from the by-product of chemical and heat-treated pyritic ores.

The former metal works is now occupied by NZ3165 : Arnold Laver timber yard, Wagonway Road, Hebburn
