Iron Age Hut by Hill Farm Shop Edingley
Iron Age Hut by Hill Farm Shop Edingley
Built by Newark and District Young Archaeologists the replica Iron Age hut was built during summer 2009. The hut is constructed from natural materials throughout. A circle of wood stakes, 3 metres in diameter, supports the wattle and daub walls, which stand approximately 1 meter high. The stakes are interwoven with willow and the gaps filled with daub made from a mixture of soil and straw. Wooden rafters support the thatched roof which contains approximately 100 bundles of sedge.
